'Jerry Siegel' Play Among Finalists for ATCA Award

ATCA has named six finalists for the $40,000 Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award recognizing the best scripts that premiered professionally outside New York City during 2010.

Rinne Groff for “Compulsion,” Lisa D’Amour for “Detroit,” Kathryn Grant for “The Good Counselor,” David Bar Katz for “The History of Invulnerability,” Bill Cain (last year’s winner) for “Nine Circles” and Emily Schwend for “Splinters.”

The History of Invulnerability,” by David Bar Katz, uses the life of Jerry Siegel, the co-creator of Superman, to explore the roots of art and how it relates to the real world. It contends that the nebbishy Siegel evolved Superman as a fantasy to counteract his guilt and impotence over the horror of the Holocaust half a world away. It premiered April 3 at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

Joanne Siegel Has Passed Away

In our saddest hour, we have to report that the wife of Superman co-creator and original model for the character of 'Lois Lane' has passed away at the age of 93.

The Siegel & Shuster Society will miss Joanne greatly and we will have Laura and the rest of the Siegel family in our prayers.

NEW Street Signs Installed With 'S' Logos!

The street signs honoring Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster and Lois Lane have been upgraded now and reinstalled with the iconic 'S' logos on them.

These were originally in the plans for the unveiling back in 2009, but the signs were not printed with the 'S' while the idea was worked out with DC Comics, the Society and the City of Cleveland as to which 'S' would be used. Luckily an agreement was reached and the signs have been refabricated.

We are honored to proudly display these signs here on the very streets that Superman and Lois Lane were originally created.

We will have some updated photos taken shortly and posted in our image gallery soon. You can check out the very first photo taken of the new signs HERE
Cleveland Plain Dealer remembers Jerry Siegel

Superman Themed Christmas Tree in Cleveland Airport
A Christmas Tree decorated with Superman ornaments is on display at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to celebrate the Man of Steel's connection to Cleveland, Ohio. A "Thank You" luncheon was held this week for people and organizations who donated items for the Airport Holiday Trees. There was a total of 12 trees in 8 different themes throughout the airport. The trees were decorated by students of Washington Park Academy. The students all got certificates for their help.

The "Salute to Superman" tree is in the middle of the food court, with organizers admitting to all at the lunch that it is the most popular tree there.

Anyone traveling through Cleveland for the Holidays should definitely stop by and see it. It is in the food court in Concourse C. The Superman tree is not viewable by anyone who does not have a boarding pass to get through the security gates though, so if you drive there to check it out, you will be turned away.

All the items and ornaments on the Superman tree were donated by Jamie from SuperCollectibles.com and the Siegel & Shuster Society.

You can view more photos of the tree in our Image Gallery.
